SN 2005ay:<br>
<br>
This SN was discovered by D. Rich (IAUC 8500)
on March 27, 2005, and absent on Month 19, 2005 (Yamaoka and Igataki; IAUC 8502), 
so discovered rather young.<br> 
<br>
The host galaxy 
<a href="http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=ngc3938&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES">NGC 3938</a> 
is at z=0.0027 (NED).<br>
<br>
Spectrum obtained by G. Smith for the CCCP 
<a href="http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=448">(ATEL 448)</a> 
shows this is a type II SN, perhaps somewhat peculiar.
This is confirmed by a later spectrum reported by Taubenberger et al. (IAUC 8502).<br>

A series of GALEX UV spectra of this SN will be obatined starting Apr. 2, as part of our GALEX ToO 
program.<br>
