Log File

When SCACQ is started, a file is opened which logs the SCACQ program activity. The file is in the same directory as the FITS files and is named in the format SCLOG.XX, where XX equals ``01'' the first time SCACQ is run using a certain data directory. The log file appears in the window at the bottom of the SCACQ window, providing a running history of scans, nod setups, and other commands as they occur. Use the scroll bars to the right of the log window to move through the file. If you'd like to see a larger log window, just stretch the corners of the main SCACQ window.

Each entry in the log file is tagged with a time that represents the value of ezra's internal clock. We usually set this to UT against the telescope clock at the beginning of each run, but it should only be considered as approximate. The UT from the telescope is written in the FITS headers and can be used to determine the correction of ezra's clock (also saved in the FITS header).

To put a comment in the Log file, click on the Log Entry button to the right of the log window, then type the comment in the Log Entry menu text entry field (Figure 4.5). To set the object name in the FITS files and SCDISP window, type the keyword ``object'' followed by the object name: for example a string such as ``object Alpha Lyr''. An entry in the form of ``OBJ Alpha Lyr'' will appear in the log file.

There are also buttons in the Log Entry menu to Flush the log file (rarely needed), and to Open new log file if desired.
