Previous: Verify instrument operation
The CCD and instrument are both controlled via a Microvax computer,
running the VMS operating system. At the 200-inch telescope, that
computer is named SAM; at the 60-inch telescope the computer is OSCAR.
Most of the software configuration will already have been done by John
Henning. This includes both the standard OBSERVING package
which is used to control the CCDs, as well as the interface for the
Fabry-Perot software. However, details of the Fabry-Perot software
should not be referred to John, but rather to one of the contact
persons listed in Appendix D.
To verify the software configuration, log in to the observing terminal
as user ccd. The password should be provided by a label on the
terminal, or you can ask the Palomar crew. When you log in, you
should be placed in the SYS:[CCD] directory, and all of the
OBSERVING programs should now be accessible (e.g., CCD commands,
filter wheel commands). A list of useful commands can be found in
Appendix A, or by typing help @observing.
