Preparations

Since the Fabry-Perot system is classified as a ``private'' Palomar instrument, the observatory staff has limited experience with its setup and operation. Therefore, careful preparations should be made before the observing run to ensure that all of the equipment will be present, and that the user is adequately trained to install and use the instrument. This typically involves contacting one of the principal supporters of the instrument at least 6-8 weeks before your observing run: Patrick Shopbell (Caltech ) or Stuart Vogel (University of Maryland ). See Appendix D for specific contact information. Although contact should probably have been made prior to proposal submission, arrangements should be made with one of these people to ensure that the user has sufficient experience to successfully assemble and use the instrument. Training options exist, including the user joining another scheduled Fabry-Perot run, or one of the instrument contact personnel accompanying the user for a portion of their run. It is highly recommended that the prospective user take advantage of one of these training options.
