Data archive commands

snvfits <image.dst> <image.fits>
Translate an image from FIGARO format to FITS format. This is a version of the fig2fits program that has been adapted by Stuart Vogel to transfer the value of the NIGHT header keyword to the ETALONZ FITS header keyword.

allsnv
Translate all of the FIGARO files in the current directory to FITS format images. This is a script that repeatedly calls the snvfits program.

fig2fits <image.dst> <image.fits>
Translate an image from FIGARO format to FITS format. This program is available on the Microvax as well as the Unix machines. The user may find it easier (and faster) to transfer the raw FIGARO files to one of the Unix machines and use this program to translate them. However, note that use of the default version of this program will result in FITS files without a proper ETALONZ header keyword. To create proper FITS files, be sure to use /home/user/Zodiac/bin/fig2fits, rather than /usr/local/bin/fig2fits. You may also want to edit the file /home/user/Zodiac/bin/fits_head with correct fields for other FITS header keywords.

backup
Backup files to tape. With the installation of a pair of Unix workstations in each telescope dome, the need for this command has been almost eliminated. Most users will find it easier to transfer their files (via ftp) to one of the Unix machines, for subsequent saving to tape using a Unix utility such as tar. Nevertheless, this command can be used with the exabyte tape drive on the Microvax to create VMS savesets, that may be later read on a VMS host, or using a Unix utility such as vmsbackup. For more details, use the VMS command help backup.
