The Palomar 60 inch telescope observing status has changed. The P60 telescope has been upgraded to work remotely and automatically with a dedicated CCD to monitor transient sources. Technical specification for the new remotely operated direct imaging CCD can be found here. Also see Robotic P60 Telescope web page for project links, observer information, and images. The P60 with its dedicated CCD spends 80% of its time searching for and monitoring transient sources under the scientific leadership of Dr. Fiona Harrison and Dr. Shri Kulkarni. The remaining 20% of the time is available to Caltech Astronomy faculty, staff and graduate students, for specific research projects. The available filters and filter transmission plots (Sept.2004) for the new P60 CCD are listed under the following links for broadband and narrowband filters. The P60 telescope is also used for public viewing nights with an eyepiece on summer nights during the full moon. Click here or more images of the 60 inch telescope.
