Short Gamma-Ray Bursts: Black Hole Neutron Star Merger

A neutron star is swallowed by a black hole producing a short gamma-ray burst. As the black hole, surrounded by a disk of hot gas, eats the neutron star it stretches the neutron star into a crescent before swallowing it. As the material falls inward intense magnetic fields pulls some some of it into jets that are accelerated outward at nearly the speed of light.
