When you're done with your observing run, the Pictor must be put away very carefully.
KEY POINTS
The CCD is a fragile and expensive device. Please exercise extreme caution
when using it. These are the key points to remember so you don't fry something:
1. Do not drop the CCD on the floor. If the CCD is not securely attached to the
telescope, it should be in its storage box, with cables coiled out of harm's way.
2. Do not plug or unplug any cable connections when power is on.
3. Use the power strip, not the individual power switches, to control power to the
computer system.
COMPUTER SHUTDOWN
1. Select 'File:Exit' to quit the Pictor software. 'Yes', you really want to quit, and 'Yes',
you want to perform a safe thermal shutdown.
2. After you've done any necessary file copying, choose 'Start:Shut Down'. Click the
'Shut down the computer' option and then 'Yes'.
3. Do not actually power off the computer until the Pictor warmup is done. The LED display on the
camera head will count down from C9 to C1. (You may proceed with the steps below
while it is warming.) When it reaches C1, turn off the computer
system with the power strip on top of the case, not with the CPU power button.
Wait for 'C1' before you power off the computer system.
Power off here.

CCD DISMOUNT
1. Holding the CCD camera head, loosen the setscrew to release it from the telescope mount.
Place the camera in its box, with any loose cable coiled inside the box.
Holding the CCD, loosen the setscrew...
...and remove it from the eyepiece socket.
Put it snug in its box.

2. Unscrew the smaller collet ring that holds the focal reducer on the telescope.
Put both dust caps back on the reducer unit, and place it in the CCD box.
Remove the focal reducer from the telescope...
...and put the caps back on.

3. Put the special red focusing eyepiece in the CCD box.
4. Close the box (leaving it ajar for the cable), and slide it under the desk.
5. Replace the standard eyepiece mount and diagonal on the Cassegrain station.
Put the eyepiece mount back on the scope...
...and screw it into position.

6. Shut down the telescope (caps & plugs, dome, clock drive off) as per normal
procedures.
FINAL CHECK
1. Wait for the warmup countdown to complete. When the camera LED display reads 'C1',
turn off the computer system power strip.
