Telecommunications within 012 and 023 Robinson

Robinson Room 023 is our primary conference room, and as such supports telconferencing and videoconferencing. The videoconferencing system is shared with the OIR conference room (Room 012) and should therefore be reserved at the same time as the room.
  • Teleconferencing:

    Telephone voice line (Room 023): (626) 395 8751

Telephone voice line (Room 012, OIR conference room): (626) 395 8646

  • Videoconferencing:

The system is heavily scheduled and should be reserved in advance. To reserve the system, please contact Marcia Brown (x4013) or Judy McClain (x4970)

    • Video Feed:

The ViewStation FX videoconferencing equipment is made by Polycom, Inc. and supports only the H.323 (IP) videoconferencing standard. (Note: ISDN service to the conference rooms has been discontinued; special arrangements can be made for ISDN calls.)

      ViewStation IP:131.215.103.50

For further information on the videoconferencing system, including more advanced procedures, send e-mail to help@astro.caltech.edu.

    • Document Camera:

A document camera is available for imaging both transparent and solid objects into a videoconference. The camera is connected via a separate port, which is accessed by pressing the "Near" button on the remote control.

    • PowerPoint:

Remote (or local) users can display power point presentations using the video system and the following procedure. Note that a password is required to use this feature; please contact help@astro.caltech.edu or Marcia Brown for details.
      • Remote user
        • From a newer version web browser, open the web site 131.215.103.50.
        • From the options shown, select PowerPoint presentation.
        • Follow the on-screen instructions to select a presentation file.
        • You will need to select a 4-digit access code and convey that code to the other conference participants.
        • A blank presentation application will open on your screen. This will filled with your PowerPoint slides after 023 local users attach to your presentation.
        • Both you and the local users will have scrolling control of the presentation.
      • Local users (in the conference rooms)
        • To display the PowerPoint presentation, push the Slides button on the remote, after the remote user has gone through the procedure above.
        • Select from the list of pending presentations.
        • You can control scrolling through pages using the < and > buttons on the remote.
        • To return to the local or a remote camera, push the near or far buttons on the remote respectively.

  • IP ports:

Robinson 023 has 5 available IP ports (+1 for the videoconferencing equipment) that allow one to connect to the campus CITNET 2000 network. Any machine configured for DHCP will work if plugged into one of these ports.
