About:
This is the first of what we anticipate will be an annual series of workshops on data science, intended to develop new collaborations in this arena between
Caltech/
JPL
and
Swinburne University of Technology.
Our initial focus is on Astroinformatics and Space Science, but we are very interested in the data science methodology transfer and exchange of ideas and tools between different scientific domains.
The workshop will consist of invited talks and discussions. Contributed papers are accepted as posters. Attendance is open to anyone from the Caltech and Swinburne communities, and there is no registration fee.

Caltech maps are available here. The closest parking is in the Holliston Ave. garage (bldg. 66 on the Caltech maps; enter from Holliston), right behind the Annex house. FYI, Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1216 E. California Bvd., is bldg. 17 on the Caltech maps.
Caltech has
a variety of special deals
with the local hotels, transportation, etc. Parking is available in any of the Caltech garages (see the maps).

Other things to do while in Pasadena:
We highly recommend The Huntington Library and Gardens, within a walking distance from Caltech. They are best known for their collections of the rare books and manuscripts, and the gardens are a a great place to relax. You may be especially interested in their exhibit

Close to the Old Town Pasadena (where there are many dining options) is the small, but exquisite
Norton Simon Museum.
Further afield, you may be interested in visiting the
Griffith Observatory in the Hollywood hills; on a clear evening, the views of the LA basin are spectacular. There are also many good museums in LA, including
The Getty (modern), and the
Getty Villa in Malibu (classical).
