What's the correct period?

Establishing the correct period for a variable object is an important
operation in characterizing the astronomical time series that surveys such as
CRTS, PTF, Pan-Starrs, etc. are generating. However, there are many different
approaches presented in the literature. In this talk, I will present a
comparison of popular period-finding algorithms and an analysis of the
accuracy of the methods against magnitude, sampling rates, quality measures,
variability, and object classes. I will also consider the performance of the
algorithms and identify the most optimal in terms of completeness and speed.
