|3 Dec 2004:||It is exactly 20 years since the Union Carbide tragedy in Bhopal
where Hydrogen Cyanide leaked killing 8000 people and maiming 500000.
"Bhopal express" a movie based on that was screened by Oasis today.
The first part - the one before the leak - was stretched a bit.
It did depict rather graphically what happened there after the leak
(with some melodrama thrown in as well).
We are so insensitive in general, especially when disasters happen to others. I had been to Bhopal 5 years ago (the year this movie was made) but never thought of visiting the area that had been affected. Not that it would have helped the victims, but ...
Is the occurrence of this thought an indication of some change that is happening inside me?

|4 Dec 2004:||Went to the first US screening of Shwaas, India's Oscar entry, and a Marathi movie. It is good. Loud in just a place or two, characters out of place just a little bit, but otherwise they have stuck to the theme, and kept their focus, a rare thing in Marathi/Hindi movies. Excellent acting by the 3 main characters. Is the title a misnomer though?||Shwaas (2004)|
|8 Dec 2004:||For the last several days was wanting to reread the first few pages of Robert Bloch's "Night world". Got a copy today. Half-eaten memories of those pages kept haunting me. The feeling of being trapped and yet being on top is caught in a very peculiar way. Its a gem. Teaches a lot about life. Want to get back to the "black notebook" in "The scarf" next.||Robert Bloch|
