Identifying Sanskrit Forms (pada parichaya)

These tests allow you to master how Sanskrit nouns change forms depending on vachana, vibhakti, .... These have been principly written for myself. But you are welcome to use and critique them.

This is what happens right now:

• You can choose transliterated text and/or devanaagari for output.
• The program dips into my db of Sanskrit nouns (currently just over 100) and pulls one out.
• It picks a vachana and vibhakti (including sambodhan) at random.
• The noun is then transformed to that vachan and vibhakti and presented to you for identifying the vachana and vibhakti, as well as the gender and -kaar of the noun.
• You choose those through the 4 menus and hit submit
• You are told if you are right or wrong and a counter increments accordingly.
• When a form can be reached by alternate vibhaktis, those are also shown e.g. bAlAbhyAm could by 3, 4, 5 vibhakti. Right now the answer does not reveal that. It says you are correct if you choose any of those 3.
• Additionally, if you are wrong, you are told how the transormation would have looked if your choices were used. Clearly, if you chose the wrong gender and/or -kaar, that part of the program becomes a bit contrived. this is especially true if you chose combos like a-kaaraant strIlinga etc. In such a case the program may present you with a blank page. Just return to the previous page and correct the, say, gender, and proceed.
• At any point (except the very first though there is a hack to get around it currently) you are allowed to restrict the domain of the quizzing by using more menus. If you do restrict yourself, those choice(s) appear selected in the selection menus (otherwise they are always reinitialised).

• If you are not subsetting, and you make a lot of mistakes, you do not know where you are making them. That metric will be good.
• Add more nouns of course
• Use the text box to type in selections (Right now if you use it, the program will ask you to go back!)
• This works for only swaraant nouns right now.
• Add colors to indicate subsetting, may be.

• After the text box is used, for one noun the program may be in a confused state.
• I am sure there would be more. Let me know if you find one.

• Works only in unicode-literate browsers (You can now select transliterated Roman when using a non-Unicode browswer).
