"Chemical analysis of the Fornax dwarf galaxy" Fornax is a nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxy with five globular clusters and a complex star formation history. It is one of the most massive dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the Local Group. Using VLT/FLAMES, we obtained high resolution (R~20000) spectra for 81 individual Red Giant Branch stars in the central region of Fornax. We used stellar atmosphere models to determine the elemental abundance of alpha (Mg, Si, Ca, Ti); iron-peak (Cr, Ni); and heavy (Y, Ba, Eu) elements. We compare these new results with our recent VLT/UVES abundance determinations of individual stars in three Fornax globular clusters and to a similar study made on the Sculptor dSph. |
