Site testing at Happy Jack, AZ. With increasing light pollution near Flagstaff, Lowell Observatory is testing other sites in Arizona for the quality of dark skies using a portable telescope and camera equipment. Believe it or not, that whole thing gets taken apart, and fits in the back of an SUV along with a full desktop computer mounted in a frame. This shot was taken using an autotimer after the exposure had been set, and is illuminated by a worklight on the SUV. Lowell Observatory recently published this picture in their Fall 2001 newsletter.
