Ay Senior trips to Hawaii Graduating Seniors in the Ay Option will be offered one trip to Hawaii, accompanying a Caltech faculty member on an observing run to Keck or CSO. This should be interpreted as an educational experience, exposing students to the cutting-edge observational research done at Caltech. Students may of course choose to extend the trip beyond the observing run, at their own discretion and expense. Ideally, this trip would be related to a research project in which they are actively involved, either done for an academic credit, or as a Senior Thesis, or done as a paid undergraduate data aide / research assistant with the faculty member in question. If this cannot be easily arranged, the student should approach some faculty member in whose research they may be interested, to join them for a particular observing run in Hawaii, without any implied obligation in terms of the research work. The Option Rep can help make such arrangements, if needed. The travel should be arranged through the Departmental or Option secretary.
