The BristleCone Pine Forest Hike

The Next CARMA site...?
This is the high flat plain on the southern side of the Bristlecone Pine Forest. It is flat and long in the east west direction. You can see the Sierras peakign up in the distance. This barren land intrigued me esp. with the Bristlecones no more than 500 yards to the east. Why this dichotomy?
