Welcome to homepage of Kishalay De
I am a third year graduate student in the Department of Astrophysics at the California Institute of Technology. Broadly, I am a time domain astronomer interested in astrophysical phenomena that change with time. I am working with Mansi Kasliwal on optical and infrared transients in the local universe, with the Gattini - IR and Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) time domain surveys.
I obtained my undergraduate degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. As a part of my undergraduate thesis, I worked with Yashwant Gupta and Prateek Sharma on developing GPU-based signal processing pipelines for the pulsar backend of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. High time resolution studies of radio pulsars with these pipelines led to the first detection of microstructure emission in millisecond pulsars.
Previously, I also worked with Kirpal Nandra and Gabriele Ponti at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching (as a DAAD-WISE fellow) on X-ray and radio emission from galactic low mass X-ray binaries. Please head to the Research tab if you'd like to know more.
