|
Postdoctoral Associate,
Research Group of
Prof. Richard Ellis
|
Oct 2005 - Oct 2008
|
- My research focuses on galaxy formation
and evolution from the observational point of view,
with a particular focus on the formation and evolution
of the spheroidal (bulge) components of spiral
galaxies. Photometric and spectroscopic observations
allow us to put constrains on the ages, metal
content, and masses of the bulge stellar populations.
In turn, these observational parameters are matched
against models to place valuable constraints on
the different formation scenarios. Understanding
the formation of bulges is a key ingredient to
our understanding of galaxy formation in general.
- Calibration of stellar population models with
integrated spectra of Globular Clusters

|
- My Ph.D. thesis research focused on stellar
populations in spiral galaxies with
the aim of constraining bulge formation scenarios
(secular evolution
versus monolithic collapse).
- Collaborative research with Eric Bell (Max Planck
Institut für Astronomie) on colour gradients in
spiral galaxies, Jesús González (Universidad
Nacional Autónoma de México) on radially resolved
absorption line indices in spiral galaxies, Jim Rose
(University of North Carolina) and Ricardo
Schiavon (University of Virginia)
on age and metal
abundances in globular clusters from their integrated
spectra, Guy Worthey (Washington State University)
on the stellar populations in M31.
