MAKEE: "trace star"

This is a bright point source (not necessary a "star") exposure used to define where the echelle orders occur on the CCD. If the object is bright enough, it can be used as the trace star. (In this case, simply specify the object file as the first two makee parameters.)

You may also use a quartz lamp exposure with the pinhole decker (D5 with HIRES) as the trace "star". Be sure there is enough light in all orders (at least a few hundred counts) and that none of the orders saturate. (Usually this pinhole quartz exposure will be 3-10 times longer than your normal slit quartz lamp exposure.)
